The meeting of the General Assembly of the Federation of the European Construction Industry (FIEC), held on May 12, 2023 in Rome.

On May 12, 2023, a meeting of the General Assembly of the Federation of the European Construction Industry (FIEC), which unites 32 countries, was held in Rome.

 On behalf of the Confederation of Builders of Ukraine, as the only representative of Ukraine, Oleksandr Chervak, the executive director of the KBU, took part in the meeting.

 In particular, the participants discussed the following:

● venue of the next session of the FIEC General Assembly;

● election of the First Vice-President of FIEC;

● organizational issues of FIEC;

● joint Manifesto on the occasion of the elections in the European Union 2024;

● reporting on the activities of the working (target) group FIEC-EIC "Ukraine", which was created at the initiative of the Central Bank of Ukraine;

● other.

FIEC President Philip Crampton announced the election of Italian member-federation ANCE (Associazione Nazionale Costruttori Edili - Associazione Nazionale Costruttori Edili - Association of Italian National Builders) Piero Petrucco as the new First Vice-President of FIEC, previously nominated for the position by the FIEC Steering Committee.

 "It is important and symbolic for me, because now we met in Rome. The following years will have some influence at the level of Europe. I believe that we should consider, in particular, the following topics in further work: electric power and ecological approach, market development, as well as the reconstruction of Ukraine. This will be a huge challenge and, at the same time, opportunities for European companies in the future," Piero Petrucco said.

FIEC partners, representatives of EIC, CICA and EFFC organizations reported on cooperation plans and what will be the focus of further work. This is, in particular, the issue of constant communication with the European Commission, the development of the Manifesto for the 2024 EU elections, the approach to public procurement, technical sustainability, carbon emissions, etc.

 The results of the EIC GA Conference on April 27-28 (Wiesbaden) were discussed and the CICA Conferences on May 24-26 (Asunción) and December 7-8 (Paris) were announced.

In addition, the meeting participants discussed the issue of assistance to Ukraine.

 Ketil Toning, Head of the "Ukraine" target (working) group, once again emphasized that FIEC condemns Russian aggression against Ukraine: "We want Ukrainians to live peacefully and without fear as soon as possible."

 Thanks to the creation of such a working group, the FIEC has a "voice" on reconstruction. According to Mr. Ketil, the group has three main goals: to monitor, develop and provide a coordinated approach to Ukraine's reconstruction efforts. Several initiatives have already been developed.

In February 2023, FIEC supported the RECOVERY CONSTRUCTION FORUM (Warsaw, Poland) as part of the ReBuild Ukraine exhibition, which was organized by the Confederation of Builders of Ukraine together with the exhibition partner Premier Expo. The event brought together representatives of foreign governments, institutions of the European Union, suppliers, manufacturers of building materials and many others. The next RECOVERY CONSTRUCTION FORUM 2.0 will take place in November of this year.

 At the same time, the FIEC together with the EIC prepared and published the draft recommendations on the future reconstruction of Ukraine.

"We insist that the reconstruction takes place as soon as possible to help the displaced families and return the economy of Ukraine to its pre-war state. Local businesses should also be involved in recovery efforts. At the same time, since Ukraine is currently on the way to joining the EU, construction must be carried out in accordance with European recommendations. Also, Ukrainian authorities, EU institutions, and banks should play an important role in the recovery process," explained the Head of the "Ukraine" target (working) group.

 Summarizing the speech, Ketil Toning emphasized that FIEC will continue to actively assist Ukraine in its efforts to rebuild the country and will fruitfully cooperate with the Central Bank of Ukraine to consolidate joint efforts.

Oleksandr Chervak ​​informed the meeting participants that on May 11, 2023, the Confederation of Builders of Ukraine and DMNTR Media Group "Home and Interior" held a large architectural and construction BUSINESS FORUM, which brought together more than 4,000 people, in Kyiv. Forum participants discussed problems, financing and restoration projects.

 The executive director of KBU thanked the management of FIEC and the European construction business for their support and said that in November of this year, KBU plans to hold RECOVERY CONSTRUCTION FORUM 2.0 together with partners in Warsaw and noted: "For an effective and constructive dialogue, concrete answers would be appreciated, if FIEC members would provide a list of issues of interest to foreign business."

Domenico Campogrande, Director General of FIEC emphasized the importance of live meetings and expressed hope that a meeting will be held in Kyiv in the near future.

 The next meeting of the FIEC General Assembly will be held on December 7, 2023 in Paris.
